| CEATING JOY IN EVERYDAY LIFE
How to Create More Joy in Everyday Life? Many of us think that there is really no way we can have real, lasting joy in life. There are so many problems and issues that go on in our personal lives that we don’t even have the time to feel joy.
Looking in our local community and the world beyond, we wonder if there is ever a cause for joy. Of all the good feelings we wish to have, joy seems one of the most elusive.
Joy can come from many sources. We are happy when we are successful, or someone we love is successful. We are joyful when we fine our soul mate in a spouse or partner. We are joyful at happy occasions. However, we feel that finding joy in everyday life is more elusive. But it doesn’t have to be.
Despite everything that goes on around us, there is a way to find joy in every day life. It has to do with how we perceive things around us, how we perceive our problems, and how we perceive ourselves and others. Whether you believe it or not, you can truly find joy in many everyday things, but you have to train your mind in a certain way of thinking to attain a joyful attitude.
The key to finding joy is to be fully conscious of one’s self and of the things around us. It is a common feeling among those who have lived through cancer and other life threatening illnesses that they have felt some of the deepest joy during their illnesses and treatment.
It is hard to put one’s finger on, but when one goes through a frightening experience, he or she often comes out of it with more peace and joy. It is because suddenly the person who is ill puts everything into proper perspective and becomes aware of the joys in life – of the simple pleasures as they say. Everything in life becomes more enhanced. What was taken for granted before, such as the beauty of a spring day, or a beautiful sunset, suddenly comes to life.
There are cases of individuals undergoing chemotherapy finding supreme joy in listening to music they have heard before, and reveling in the joy of it like never before. Suddenly, when one comes on the other side of a frightening experience, he or she may notice how beautiful the sky is, or the flowers that adorn a yard.
You can find joy in these simple pleasures: music, flowers, sea and sky, by being more conscious of them on a day-to-day basis. You can find joy in many other things when you have become attuned to your inner self and what makes it tick. You may want to read Conscious Living: Finding Joy in the Real World, by Gay Hendricks. The book provides a road map to conscious living, and ultimately finding that elusive joy. | |
